Who We Are
The Inventive Medical Foundation (IMF) is an independent, nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to advancing innovative, evidence-based, and accessible therapeutic solutions for patients affected by difficult acute and chronic diseases. Founded on the scientific vision and leadership of distinguished physicians and researchers affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of USC, the Foundation brings together an international network of medical professionals, scientists, and healthcare specialists committed to improving global health through collaboration, discovery, and education.
IMF was established on the belief that meaningful medical innovation should be both scientifically rigorous and economically accessible. The Foundation’s work is inspired by the extensive academic and research contributions of Dr. Ba Xuan Hoang, MD, PhD, and Dr. Bo Han, PhD, whose backgrounds in medicine, oncology, immunology, pharmacology, tissue engineering, and drug discovery have guided the organization’s interdisciplinary approach to translational medical research.
The Foundation serves as a collaborative platform for experts across multiple scientific and clinical disciplines who share a common mission: to explore and develop effective therapeutic approaches, innovative pharmaceutical compounds, nutraceuticals, and phyto-therapeutic products that may improve patient outcomes and quality of life. IMF supports scientific initiatives focused on therapies that address unmet medical needs and conditions for which conventional treatment options remain limited or insufficient.

The low success rates, prolonged timelines, and escalating costs of conventional pharmaceutical drug development signal an urgent need for more innovative and sustainable therapeutic discovery strategies. The Inventive Medical Foundation (IMF) is committed to advancing a new paradigm in drug discovery inspired by natural products, traditional medicine, and the repurposing of existing drugs for the treatment of common, rare, and difficult-to-treat diseases.
Under the scientific leadership and vision of its founders and advisers, the IMF draws on decades of clinical experience, translational research, and evidence-based traditional medical knowledge to develop safer, more effective, and more affordable therapeutic approaches. Its recent publications and ongoing research continue to highlight the therapeutic potential of naturally derived compounds, innovative combination therapies, and non-toxic treatment strategies for complex chronic and degenerative diseases.
Historically, many breakthrough and blockbuster medications have originated from natural compounds or their derivatives. Natural product–based drug discovery has contributed significantly to modern medicine by providing effective treatments for cancer, infectious diseases, inflammatory disorders, and metabolic conditions. Despite this success, profit-driven commercial models in recent decades have led to a decline in research investment in natural and traditional therapeutics, limiting exploration of potentially transformative and accessible treatments.
